Do you want to play a key role in an organisation that stands up for children every day? Then join us as Head of Africa Philanthropy and you will be responsible for driving Save the Children's philanthropy across the African market.

We stand with children in the toughest places to be a child. Together with children, communities, donors, partners, NGOs and governments, we fight for children's rights to education, safety and healthcare, so they can go on to build a better world.

As Head of Africa Philanthropy, you will maximise transformational major gift (£1m+) potential on the African continent. You will proactively drive new business and engage with our most valued supporters, securing support and building sustainable relationships of value. Working alongside the Africa Advisory Board and sourcing significant income for Save the Children's key priorities are also essential elements of this role. In addition, you will:

  • Be integral to the delivery of our strategy to establish and build long-lasting, highly strategic relationships with philanthropists at the highest level, with on focus on 7 figure gifts
  • Inspire, motivate and lead a team across multiple geographies and countries
  • Generate new links with prospects through peer to peer approaches & actively network to generate a pipeline value of £10m annually
  • Provide excellent stewardship of transformational donors, understanding donor motivations, philanthropy trends across the African content & delivering a bespoke donor journey to maximize their engagement with Save the Children
  • Work collaboratively and effectively within the organisation, developing positive, solution focused relationships, working with other departments and teams when required, to realise your objectives.

To be successful you will have extensive experience or knowledge of philanthropy in Africa, as well as demonstrable experience of cultivating gifts – preferably at £1m+ level- and providing outstanding stewardship. Excellent communication and relationship building skills are key to being successful in this role . In addition you will have:

  • Excellent written skills, including the development of compelling communications for donors
  • The ability to plan, prioritise and manage a varied and demanding workload in order to meet deadlines
  • The ability to collaborate & work across teams on complex programmes and donor relationships, building both strong internal and external networks
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills.

Please note - we are flexible on where the successful applicant can be based for this role, but travel to meet philanthropists face to face when current restrictions ease will be expected.

Jobs are positioned within the salary structure on the basis of evaluation. New employees would normally be appointed at the bottom of the grade, however the appointed salary may also take into account the relevant experience a candidate brings to a role.
